This course focuses on theories, principles, and effective practices in the teaching and learning of English as an Additional Language. Students will develop in-depth understanding of relevant principles and practices underpinning the teaching and learning of Reading and Listening skills. In addition, the course addresses relevant principles and practices related to the teaching and learning of English vocabulary. They will critically reflect on selected pedagogical practices within the sociocultural context of English language education in the UAE. This evaluative process will allow them to successfully apply relevant learning-centred principles and theories from current research, to develop engaging and challenging English language learning experiences. Students will build specialized knowledge and skills regarding the development of receptive skills and vocabulary among learners. This specialized knowledge will be further enhanced by developing a critical awareness of best practices in formative and summative assessment of progression in the above English skills through the development of research-based classroom-based assessment strategies that are aligned with the UAE English curriculum.
