Course Description

 

This course focuses on theories, principles, and effective practices in the teaching and learning of English as an Additional Language. Students will develop in-depth understanding of relevant principles and practices underpinning the teaching and learning of Writing and Speaking skills. In addition, the course addresses relevant principles and practices related to the teaching and learning of English grammar. Students will critically reflect on selected pedagogical practices and within the sociocultural context of English language education in the UAE. This evaluative process will allow them to successfully apply or adapt relevant student-centered principles and theories from current research, to develop engaging, locally-contextualized and challenging English language learning experiences. Students will develop highly specialized knowledge and skills regarding the development of productive skills and grammar among learners, while exploring a primarily genre based writing approach and reflecting on technology-enhanced approaches to literacy.
