M.Ed on Education and Innovation: EDUECE1 - Child Development Across Contexts (0-8 years)

COURCE DESCRIPTION

This course aims to develop in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge related to child development, exploring the meanings and usefulness for practice of different concepts of child development and growth. There is a focus on critically reflecting on the significance of concepts of child development and growth for understanding and explaining children’s learning, and on implications for teachers in supporting children’s learning in different contexts. Students will be supported in examining, evaluating, and applying links between the developing child and the environment, taking into account influences of physical, cognitive, language, emotional, and socio- cultural factors. The course encourages students to develop theoretical and practical, knowledge and understandings of research-informed, leading edge approaches for supporting children’s holistic growth in early childhood settings, where typical and atypical development are considered a part of diversity. The course addresses how best to understand and support child development across contexts, including the roles of parents, families, the school, and broader societal factors, along with an emphasis on advocacy for the developing child.
