Pre-Service Secondary Postgraduate Diploma in Education: EDUSE1 - English Language and Literacy I – Teaching and Learning Reading, Listening, and Vocabulary

COURCE DESCRIPTION

This course synthesizes relevant theories, principles, research, and effective practices in the teaching and learning of English as an Additional Language in secondary grades. Students will be supported in implementing research- and theory-informed knowledge of balanced practical approaches to the development and assessment of Reading and Listening skills. In addition, the course addresses specialized knowledge and skills related to the teaching and learning of English vocabulary. Students will critically reflect on selected pedagogical practices within the sociocultural context of English language education in the UAE. This evaluative process will support them to successfully and critically adapt, for practice, relevant learning-centred principles and theories from current research, to build an expanding repertoire of practices for sharing engaging and challenging English language learning experiences with learners.  This includes lesson observation, design, and implementation. Students’ growing teaching expertise will be further enhanced by building a critical awareness of best practices in formative and summative assessment of learning progression in the above English skills through the development of research-informed classroom-based assessment strategies.
