The course examines and critically analyses the different approaches, theories, and models of leadership worldwide with an emphasis on comparing these approaches with the cultural values and ethics of leadership in the UAE. It is designed to equip in-service middle leaders and aspirant and inservice senior leaders with research-informed knowledge, skills, and practices that foster and promote a culture of service and inclusive learning. Key topics that will be explored and critically discussed are leadership theories and models, the ethics and principles of leadership in the UAE, motivation theories, emotional intelligence, culture competency development, and school effectiveness and improvement. Through critical engagement with course content, class discourses of what constitutes ethical leadership behaviour and effective school improvement practices, and self-reflection on one’s leadership capabilities and competencies, students will be able to develop their own approach to educational leadership that leads to effective school improvement in the UAE.
