Pre-Service Early Years/Primary Postgraduate Diploma in Education: EDUPPPEYP1 - Professional Practice Placement - Early Years & Primary 1: From exposure to participation in the life of classrooms and schools

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course, interns will be supported in developing an initial sense of belonging to the teaching profession in early years and primary grade settings. Interns will draw on various sources of knowledge, including the pedagogical content knowledge of the school-based mentor, while they critically reflect on and analyze in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge gained in concurrent coursework and in classroom settings. Interns will critically reflect on their own values, beliefs, dispositions, knowledge and experiences in teaching and learning as reflective aspiring teachers in the UAE classroom. They will demonstrate the ability to effectively apply observation tools for informing their knowledge, values and developing innovative teaching practices and as a basis for synthesizing connections between theory and practice in relation to teaching, learning and assessment. Interns will also engage with diverse learners individually, in small groups, and as whole groups in a variety of lesson contexts. Interns will critically reflect on evidence collected during classroom observations in UAE schools in order to deepen and advance knowledge and understandings of individual and group characteristics of children in early years and primary settings, while demonstrating a growing understanding and critical awareness of the multiple roles of the professional teacher in the school community
